Italian industry signs voluntary agreement on food reformulation

In October 2015 Federalimentare signed a voluntary agreement with the Italian Ministry of Health, focused on food product reformulation: 鈥Common objectives for the improvement of the nutritional characteristics of food products, with a special focus on children (aged 3-12)鈥. The period covered is 2008-2018.

Targets for reformulation have been agreed for three different categories of foods (not only specifically children鈥檚 products):

  1. cereal & sweet (breakfast cereal, biscuits, salted snacks, potato chips, crackers, cakes)
  2. beverage (soft drink, nectars/juices and fruit pulp)
  3. dairy products and ice creams (yogurt, fermented milk, ice cream)

The Italian Ministry of Health has set up an ad hoc group on monitoring initiatives.
